Shree Chanakya Education Society
The Shree Chanakya Education Society (SCES) was established in February 1994, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Tarita Shankar, with the aim of providing top quality post-graduate education in the fields of Business Management, International Business and Information Technology. By consistently providing quality education over the past few decades, institutes at Indira Group is now considered as one of the best institutes in Pune. At a time when India was struggling to put its economy back on its feet, after the nation having pawned the “family jewels” just to keep afloat, Dr. Tarita Shankar sensed that education too would have to become more broad based and more vocational in nature if India was to stand up to the world competition in quality and price for its products, The then Finance Minister had prescribed for the economy and so, in 1994, began a saga of growth and quality in education; a story that is just reaching its zenith with 14 full fledged Institutes registering a strong presence on Pune’s educational horizon. Since inception, the Institutes managed by SCES, have maintained high academic standards and have successfully provided trained manpower to the industrial and services sector of the country. These institutes are now listed amongst the top colleges not just in Pune, but also in Maharashtra and India. With a modest strength of 60 students pursuing a single course, SCES has grown steadily and today boasts of 14 Institutes, having more than 8000 students from all over India pursuing multi-disciplinary, graduate & post-graduate programs. The objective of the institute is providing ‘Management education in a corporate environment’, has been possible due to the sincere and dedicated efforts of the members of SCES, who have invaluable experience in varied areas like academics, industry, service and social-world.

Shree Chanakya Education Society’s “Indira Group of Institutes”, Pune was established in 1994, with the explicit vision to provide sustainable impetus to the corporate and entrepreneurial abilities in the youth. The realization that a robust framework of education is indispensable for the growth of global leaders, the visionary, Dr. Tarita Shankar, Chairperson, Indira Group, integrated her pursuit of excellence and articulated educational institutions, known as Indira Group of Institutes (IGI), which imbibe human excellence and demonstrate strong social values, with a single minded pursuit of developing the youth to become business leaders.
Unrelenting initiatives by the management team at Indira led to adding of multi-disciplines such as Management, Information Technology, Pharmacy, Commerce, Science, Engineering and Mass Communication to the group and growth has been as deep as it has been wide. With 12 institutions, IGI now offers education right from Kindergarten to Doctorate level studies. IGI believes in the economic independence of individuals. In this endeavor we aim to inspire our post graduate students to create a niche for themselves in the Indian Economic order first, and then compete globally. We owe our gratitude to the Indian Industry for consistently collaborating with us in this endeavor. Renowned industrialists have visited us and tremendously enhanced the morale of our students by sharing their vast knowledge and experience about entrepreneurial opportunities and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship amongst students.

The name Indira Group of Institutes (IGI) is synonymous with its driving force- Chairperson & Chief Mentor, Dr Tarita Shankar, a dynamic, passionate and caring leader who has shaped IGI from scratch. Dr.Tarita Shankar holds a Degree in Arts and Law and is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School, USA having completed the ‘Owner/President Management’ program (OPM).
Realizing during the early 1990’s that Liberalization and Privatization of the Indian economy and consequently the education sector would open the door to innumerable opportunities, inspired by the wisdom of Chanakya, the legendary statesman, our iron-willed Prime Minister, late Mrs Indira Gandhi and backed by the encouragement and blessings of her parents and well-wishers, Dr Tarita Shankar sowed the seeds of the parent trust, Shree Chanakya Education Society, Pune.
Unwavering vision, meticulous planning, over two decades of countless hours at work, unflinching support from her family and a well-groomed leadership team comprising of seasoned academicians has seen the IGI group blossom to over 16 Institutions delivering cutting edge learning, to more than 18000 students from KG to PG level.

“Compassion is an expression of strength...You are so confident that you can allow the sorrows of other people to touch you”
CARE-Counsel, Advise, Rise and Evolve, an initiative by Tarita Maam, whereby students’ staff in all Indira Institutes and also alumni seek her guidance on professional and personal issues and in return benefit from her rich experience in work and life. As Dr. Shankar puts it “My dream of starting this initiative was through daily interactions that I used to have with the students, staff at our campuses and our large alumni community that’s connected with me on my social media 24 by 7. Tarita maam counsels students at least 10 students weekly on a one to one basis.... helping them to transform into better and caring human beings and spreading happiness in society. Care Club is registered as a Trust under Maharashtra Public Trusts Act 1950, on 17th October 2022 and all donations to it are fully exempted under the Income Tax Act 1961. Care Club was awarded the NGO Leadership Award at World CSR Congress Awards-2023 on 18th February 2023 at Mumbai.

Dr. Tarita Shankar’s meteoric rise from a young family-oriented girl to an exemplary leader was paved with several hurdles, personal and professional challenges which she overcame through pure grit and determination, ability to adapt to changes and an unending quest for excellence. An avid reader, an excellent orator renowned for her free, frank and fearless expression of her views, she loves to travel, having visited all major countries over the world. Philanthropy and concern for the less fortunate occupies her leisure time. Above all, she’s a doting mother, an affectionate family woman, and a fun loving, down to earth personality.
